August 24, Rasuwa – The pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar has been disrupted due to road damage on the Chinese side caused by heavy rainfall.
Chief District Officer of Rasuwa, Bednidhi Khanal, informed that vehicular movement has been halted after the Kerung River, located five kilometers north of the Friendship Bridge at Rasuwagadhi, flooded and cut off the highway within Chinese territory.
Approximately 500 pilgrims returning to Nepal from Kailash and 100 pilgrims heading towards the holy site have been stranded at Kerung and Rasuwagadhi, respectively, due to the road closure.
CDO Khanal stated that Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) Gulm 20 in Rasuwa are coordinating efforts to assist the stranded pilgrims.
The distance from Kathmandu, the capital, to Kerung is approximately 171 kilometers. The District Administration Office has requested the Kerung authorities to expedite the reopening of the highway to facilitate the pilgrims on their journey to Kailash.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Keshav Bhattarai mentioned that Nepal Police is coordinating to assist the stranded pilgrims in the Timure area.
